Gilberts disease or increased level of bilirubin in the blood which is caused by abnormal bilirubin metabolism in the liver. Bilirubin is a product of decomposition of red blood cells. This is hereditary disorder and one in five Caucasians has a light form of this disease. The disorder causes an increased level of so called unconjugated bilrubin. Occasionaly bilirubin is increased enough to cause slight skin yelowness. The illness is not generaly dangerous and few other symptoms are present.
Yellow skin and whites of the eyes, tiredness, abdominal pain.
History of disease is being taken and physical examination is being done. Increased level of indirect bilirubin in the blood confirms the diagnosis.
