Vaginal fungal infection

Description

Vaginal yeast fungal infection.A yeast fungus are type of the fungus and they usually infect the vaginal area. The most common organism is Candida albicans (white Candida). These infections more often occur after taking antibiotics. Antibiotics kill normal bacteria which live in the vagina allowing like this the fungus to grow without the competition.

Symptoms

Abnormal vaginal discharge, watery discharge, white discharge, thick white lump like discharge (as cottage cheese), swelling of the skin of vulva, pain in sexual intercourse, painful urination, redness of the vulva, itchy vagina and labia, burning sensation.

Overview

Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done. Vaginal smear identifies the fungus Candida.

Therapy

Therapy involves over the counter vaginal creams such as miconazole and clotrimazole. Pills given on prescription- fluconazole (Diflucan), vaginal suppositories and creams are on disposal.
