Vaginal infection

Description

Bacterial vaginosis or vaginal infection is vaginal inflammation as a result of multiplication of one or several species of bacteria, which are normally present in the vagina. Normally, vagina contains better than bad bacteria. This disorder appears when bad bacteria overcome. The cause of bacterial vaginosis is unknown, but following conditions increase chances for this disease to develop: new sexual partner, a large number of sexual partners or vaginal rinsing.

Symptoms

Vaginal discharge, itch, burning, smelly vaginal discharge (smells like a fish).

Overview

Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done. Vaginal smear will be taken to identify bacteria.

Therapy

Metronidazole (Flagyl), either orally or vaginally. Clindamycin and tinidazole may be used, as well.
