Achilles tendon rupture (heel tendon tear)

Description

Rupture of Achilles tendon that is stretching from down part of calf muscle to the heel.The injury usually happens during jumping or running. Most people hear the sound like “crack” in the back of the ankle.

Symptoms

Pain being increased by moving, weakness or inability to turn down the foot, swelling in the back of the ankle.

Overview

Anamnesis is taken and physical examination is done. Additional analysis includes X-rays imaging.

Therapy

Toes directed downwards are put in A plaster cast (equinus position). Sometimes surgical intervention is needed.
