Most hernias can be pushed back to the abdominal cavity. If it cannot be pushed back through the abdominal wall the hernia may need to be repaired to prevent the intestine from losing the blood supply and dying, whichcan lead to peritonitis and that complication can be life-threatening. Inguinal hernias often require surgery, butfor some a careful and regular monitoring is enough.
