Abnormal heart rhythm

Description

Arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm.Abnormal heart rhythm, which is irregular, too fast or too slow. Arrhythmia appears when electric impulses of the heart are abnormal. Arrhythmia can be caused by following conditions: thyroid gland disease, scar tissue from a previous heart attack, medicines, previous heart trauma or congenital abnormalities. However, arrhythmias frequently occur without any evident cause.

Symptoms

Dizziness, loss of consciousness, sensation of rapid or irregular heartbeat, weakness, shortness of breath, palpitations, anxiety.

Overview

Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done. ECG or other monitoring of the heart (holder or cardiac events) could also be done to determine the type of arrhythmia. Lab tests can be done for identification of the possible cause of the arrhythmia.

Tests

Complete blood count (CBC), biochemical blood analysis, electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG), test on troponin and X-rays.

Holter monitor, cardiac events monitor.

Therapy

Depends on the cause, but it can include ablation process of injured part of the conduction system of the heart (heat therapy). Part of the heart that is causing arrhythmia is deactivated with that. Remaining therapies include pacemakers, medicines and / or internal defibrillator.
