Bronchial tube inflammatory damage

Description

Bronchiectasis or bronchial tube inflammatory damage is lung disease that involves destruction and enlargement of bronchi. It is often caused by recurrent inflammations or infections of the airways. Most frequently it begins as complication in the childhood after an infection or inhaling of foreign object, but it can develop at any other period of life.

Symptoms

Cough, traces of blood in the sputum, shortness of breath, wheezing during breathing, fatigue.

Overview

Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done. X-rays and CT scan of thorax will be done, too.

Therapy

Therapy includes: bronchodilators (salbutamol, ipratropium), expectorants and antibiotics. Surgical resection of diseased lungs is sometimes necessary.
