Broken collar bone

Description

Clavicle fracture or broken collar bone. Clavicle (collar bone) connects shoulder with breastbone. Fracture is broken bone. The clavicle is most often broken when the patient, while falling down, lands directly to the shoulder. Clavicle can also be broken due to a direct hit. Severe fractures can damage nerves or arm blood vessels.

Symptoms

Pain in shoulder, deformity of the clavicle, pain when moving the shoulder, arm numbness, bruises over collar bone, high sensitivity to touch.

A large number of clavicle fractures can be treated by supporting the arm with a splint or by shoulder immobilization.Severe fractures may require surgery. In the cases when the bone breaks through the skin, surgery will be necessary for cleaning the wound. Painkillers will be prescribed.
