Toothache

Description

It occurs when the tooth nerve due to tooth bleeding or inflammation (pulpitis) becomes exposed. Pulpitis represents the inflammation of the pulp inside the teeth caused by bacteria which penetrate through the tooth affected by the caries. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerve and connective tissue inside the teeth.

Symptoms

Toothache, sensitivity of the tooth to hot and cold.

Anamnesis and physical examination will be performed. X-rays image of the teeth discovers caries and inflammations.

Therapy

Treatment depends on the extent of teeth damage. In some cases toothache resolves on its own and in other cases treatment of the tooth and/or tooth root is needed. Medicines like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen/Brufen or Ibuprofen, naproxen or Nalgesin), painkillers such as acetaminophen (paracetamol) narcotic painkillers can be prescribed. Antibiotics are used if there is an infection.
