Blood behind ear drum
Description
Hemotympanum or blood behind ear drum. Cause is the blood in the middle ear cavity (behind the ear drum) and is often a result of basal skull fracture.
Symptoms
Headache, bruise behind the ear (behind the eardrum), loss of hearing.
Overview
History of disease is being taken and physical examination is being done. CT scan and/or magnetic resonance imaging of the head are done to identify the injury that caused the bleeding.
Tests
Complete blood count (CBC), biochemical blood analysis, CT scan, analysis of urine and X-rays.
