Periorbital cellulitis or infection around eye. Periorbital cellulitis is an infection of the eyelid or skin surrounding the eye. (This differs from the orbital cellulitis which is the eye muscle infection). Periorbital cellulitis is more common in children and often develops from a minor scratch or injury on the skin of the eye.
Redness, swelling and increased warmth of the eyelid and its surroundings. Elevated temperature is frequent. Unlike the orbital cellulitis, periorbital cellulitis does not cause bulging of the eyeball (proptosis) or restriction of its mobility.
History of disease is being taken and physical examination is being done. Blood culture. CT scan may define the extent of infection.
Complete blood count (CBC), biochemical blood analysis, CT scan.

Treatment includes oral and intravenous use of antibiotics depending on the severity of the infection.
