Cataracts ili clouding of the eye lens. In the healthy eye the light goes through clean lens and falls on the retina, in the back part of eye. Vision is impaired when the lens is cloudy. A cataract usually occurs slowly and develops later in life. The eye injuries andcongenital abnormalities can speed up the development of cataracts. Following conditions may increase chances for cataracts: smoking, taking of steroids, diabetes, high blood pressure, alcoholism, exposing to the sun light, without sunglasses, obesity, previous eye injuries or eye diseases, hereditary factor.
Symptoms appear slowly and they include: impaired vision, blurred vision, sensitivity on mild light, difficulty in distinguishing colors, impaired vision at the night or doble vision on one eye.
Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done.
Ophthamology
Cloudy lens should be removed and repaced with the artificial one. In rare cases, it is impossible to put new lenses after removal of the injured ones and then the patient should wear contact lenses or glasses in order to see better.
