Protein is a key macronutrient for the human body and its growth, maintenance and general healthy functioning. Protein contains amino acids which are used for building and recovery, or rather repair, of muscles and bones, as well as for the creation of hormones and enzymes. It’s also key in the travel of oxygen thorough the body and is used as an energy source.

Protein is naturally consumed through food, the specific amount of protein which is recommended daily depends on factors like weight, sex, age and health.

Protein can be found in many different foods, the most in the following:

-   Fish and meat

-   Eggs

-   Dairy products

-   Seeds and nuts

-   Legumes

Research has shown that protein has a filling effect, which can significantly help with weight loss, besides its significance in muscle building. Also, more protein in the diet can help with keeping the lost weight off, which can be one of the hardest parts of long-term weight loss.

If you are physically active, it’s necessary to consume enough protein so that your muscles can recover adequately from the stress they’ve been placed under. Adequate amounts of protein are also necessary for recovery from injury of any kind.

A diet rich in protein can have significant effects on metabolism regulation and lead to a more efficient way of spending calories during the day.

Protein is key in the creation of antibodies which fight off viruses and bacterial infections, an adequate amount of protein in the diet is sure to help immune system regulation.

Some studies suggest that protein can help with reducing blood pressure and the risk of numerous cardiovascular diseases.

Some of the main reasons for the worsening of life quality with age are related to frailty and muscle and bone deterioration, this can be prevented by remaining in good physical condition and having a healthy diet.

Focusing on a good diet and consuming more protein daily can hardly be counterproductive. Still, in cases of too much protein consumption problems with digestion, kidneys, constipation, dehydration, risk of diseases and deficiency of other nutrients, may arise. This almost always happens only with very increased protein consumption in diets which extremely focus on protein intake.
