Threads for skin tightening are an innovative approach to rejuvenation, also known as thread lifts. This minimally invasive treatment allows the lifting and tightening of loose facial and body skin. Thread lift is used more and more as a treatment in aesthetic medicine which attracts all those who want quick results with a minimal recovery period.
Threads for skin tightening are resorbable threads, made of biocompatible materials that are absorbed in the body over time. These threads have a dual role, the first is to mechanically lift the skin and the second one is to stimulate the natural production of collagen. Collagen is a key protein that affects the strength and elasticity of the skin and has effects on improving skin quality over time.
There are different types of threads that are used to perform this treatment and in practice, these three types are most commonly used:
PDO threads, short for polydioxanone, are the most common choice because they have rapid resorption of 6 to 12 months and they're proven safe. They're particularly effective for slightly loose skin and encourage collagen stimulation.
PLA threads (Poly-L-lactic acid) are threads that degrade more slowly in a period of 12 to 18 months, and have a stronger lifting and rejuvenating effect. They're suitable for everyone with a medium degree of skin laxity.
And the third group are PCL threads (Polycaprolactone) , the longest-lasting one with a resorption period of 24 to 36 months. They provide a long-lasting lifting effect and in addition, they play a role in the regeneration of the deep skin layers.
Before the start of the treatment local anesthesia is applied to the target area in order to avoid the discomfort of the treatment. For the treatment itself, special cannulas or thin needles are used to place threads under the skin's surface. After placement threads immediately provide a lifting effect, while the collagen regeneration process lasts for several months which prolongs the results of the treatment.
Tightening threads are used mostly on the face, but they can be used on any other part of the body. For example the specific areas on the face are eyelids, threads are also used for tightening the area under the eyes and jaw, as well as lifting of the eyebrows and cheeks. On the neck, they can also give excellent results by tightening loose skin and reducing wrinkles, and on the body they're used to tighten the inner side of the upper arms, stomach, thighs and rear.
The advantages of this rejuvenation treatment are the immediate results after treatment, the quick and minimal recovery period and the safety of the procedure. Beside the benefits, side effects such as redness, bruising and swelling are possible. Complications such as infection or asymmetry rarely occur, especially if the treatment is performed by a professional and qualified person.
Skin tightening threads are an ideal solution for those who want a rejuvenated appearance without surgical procedure and the plus effect is skin regeneration which makes them one of the most desirable treatments today. Because of all of the above, before making a decision about the treatment it's important to consult with an expert in order to determine if this treatment is suitable for our skin and the result we want.
